I am a real estate agent and house flipper by day and an artist by nature. I paint with acrylic and oil paints. Themes in my artwork vary from challenging educational studies to deeply emotional renderings of loved ones as well as total abstractions. Each painting is thoughtfully composed no matter the subject. I attempt to engage the viewer with specific mood, time and the subtle effects of the painting medium. Currently I am the CEO of the Olathe Visual Artists and First Art Gallery of Olathe. I teach painting classes at the First Art Gallery of Olathe every Saturday morning. I have won the following honors Brush Creek Art Walk 2014 – Honorable Mention, “Nelson From the South Lawn” Plein Air oil on canvas, Stems Plein Air Event 2014 – 4th Place “Silent City” Plein Air oil on canvas nocturn, Olathe Art Fair 2013 – 3rd place “Kill Creek Trail” Plein Air oil on canvas

Original Acrylic Paintings by John Burns
I did not start out as a child loving to paint or draw. I was 45 years old when after watching Bob Ross on TV, I decided to try my hand at it. It was not too bad for the first try, so I continued on. I attended three week long classes that Bob and his assistants provided. I became a Bob Ross certified instructor. I taught for about 8 years. I have been painting in oils but decided to try acrylics and have been painting in that medium ever since.

John will have his paintings specially priced to sell, since he will be moving on!
This month our meeting will have speaker Jilli Nel, an international abstract painter, you can see her work here.
She primarily works in Acrylic and her demo will be about using Acrylic medium. She is also willing to present a two day workshop “Let Go, Let Flow” if there is enough interest down the road.
