First Art Gallery July Events

The First Art Gallery of Olathe is a local artist co-op and a separate organization from Olathe Visual Artists.  The OVA often partners with the Gallery for classes and events and many of our members are also Gallery members.  Some of the classes listed below are being hosted by OVA members through the Gallery.

ARTIST RECEPTION
FEATURED ARTIST : Sherri Hanna
JULY 6 – SATURDAY 6-8pm
The first Art Gallery of Olathe would like to honor our featured Artist of the Month potter Sherri Hanna with an art reception on Saturday July 6. Sherri will have her original pottery & jewelry on display and for purchase throughout the month of July. The evening will include complimentary refreshments and live music for your enjoyment. Please come and meet Sherri and help her celebrate her creativity.

OLATHE VISUAL ARTISTS SEMI-ANNUAL MEMBERS SHOW
This entire month we have a special treat a display by the members of the Olathe Visual Artists. In 1993, the Olathe Arts Council, presided over by Don Dane, became known as the Olathe Visual Artists, Inc. As a non-profit organization, the group was funded in part by membership fees, by money from the Olathe Arts Alliance, and by the Public Arts and Cultural Commission.
The Olathe Visual Artists is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting art and building an artist community in Olathe. The Olathe Visual Artists annually awards a scholarship to College bound Olathe high school students who will study art in college. OVA also sponsors art fairs, workshops, art contests and art classes for children held at the First Art Gallery of Olathe. Come meet the members and celebrate the arts in Olathe.

SUMMER SEA COLLAGE
July 16, 6:30-8:30

“Are you missing the Sand & Sea?
Well, let US bring them to YOU!
Come explore the art of collage and create your own Sea collage. Bring shells or sand from home or use shells and sand we provide that night. You will pick the canvas size, paint colors and then make a collage full of memories. Bring your own refreshments if you like. This is kid friendly so bring the family. SEND IN THE CLOUDS
July 30, 6:30-8:30
Cost is $25. per artist
All materials provided.
Get you head into the clouds with this cloud study workshop. We will be looking at cloud paintings by famous artists William Turner and John Constable. Then choosing a size of canvas, colors and the type of clouds you wish to study we will create away. Add a landscape if you wish or water to your cloud masterpiece.
Bring your own refreshments if you like. This is kid friendly. It’s fun and stress free.

WEEKLY CLAY CLASSES – Ages 7- 15
Mondays-1:00-2:00 pm or 2:15-3:15 pm
Dates: July 8,15, 22, 29 Aug 5
Cost: $25. Per class per Artist Or 4 classes $90.

Students will make eight clay projects that have a farm theme. Students will learn a variety of methods for creating with clay as well as glazing. Each class is offered twice a day with two different time slots to choose from.July 2019 Calendar of Events 7

WEEKLY DRAWING LESSONS – Ages: 7-15
Mondays 3:30 – 4:30 pm
Dates: July 8,15,22,29, Aug 5
Cost: $80. for 4 classes
All materials provided
Class size limited
Students will learn how to draw and shade still life, animals and portraits. Students will explore the mediums of charcoal, pencil, oil pastel, ink and chalk. Classes do not have to be consecutive.May 2019 Calendar of Events 8

BEAD WEAVING
EVERY MONDAY IN JULY
TIME: 5:30-8:30
COST : $25. per session
Ages: 10 -Adult
Space limited to 14 artists
Create beautiful beaded artwork and jewelry. You set the pace at which you learn no penalty for going slow or fast. We should meet new friends and have a lot of fun learning some very interesting techniques learning and exploring how to paint with beads. We will start with amulet bags, the technique is right angle weave. First night will be free just to get introduced and we will talk about supplies. If you want to get started the first night here is a supply list (if you want to hit the ground beading). Please bring size 8,11 or 15 seed beads in any color or contrasting colors 10 grams or a hank at least of each color,4-6 mm crystals at pack of 50- 100 crystals, nylon or beading thread size b,c or d, size 13 beading needle or big eyed needle, small scissors, smooth shallow bowl or plate. Graph paper will be supplied because there is special beading graph paper according to the technique or type bead we’ll be using. Also bring reference material like a cross stitch pattern if you like.

PAINTING WITH DAVE
Every Wednesday 6-9pm & Saturday 9am-12pm
Oil & Acrylic Painting Instruction
$10. per hour
Ages 16-Adult All skill levels welcome
Want to learn how to paint? Then sign up to paint with Dave Stewart every Saturday morning or Wednesday evenings . Bring your painting supplies and Dave will teach you how to create original works of art.July 2019 Calendar of Events 9
