The First Gallery of Olathe is a separate organization from Olathe Visual Artists, but they partner with the OVA for several events, including the upcoming Olathe Station Art Fair. Several OVA members are also First Gallery members.
The following is the First Gallery’s Calendar of Events for May.
* MAY 4 – ARTIST RECEPTION*
FEATURED ARTIST : RUTH BUKOVAC
The first Art Gallery of Olathe would like to honor our featured Artist of the Month Ruth Bukovac with an art reception on Saturday May 4. Ruth will have her original pottery and sculptures on display and for purchase throughout the month of May. The evening will include Beer tasting and snacks provided by Granite City as well as other refreshments and live music for your enjoyment. Please come and meet Ruth and help her celebrate her creativity. Also find a clue and pick up your part II for the Treasure Hunt.
*MAY 4 – OLD BILL’S TREASURE HUNT PART II *
The treasure hunt began April 15 and goes until May 19. So stop in to the gallery to register and pick up a Treasure Hunt guide to Old Bill’s Treasure. Part II of the players guide will be available 6-8pm May 4th at the Art Reception. Then let your quest continues until the finish at the Art Fair. You could be the lucky winner and find the grand prize of $1000. It’s easy just follow the clues to the treasure.
Must be registered and 18 to win.
*MAY 18 & 19 – OLATHE STATION ART FAIR *
Come to the second annual Olathe Station Art Fair! Featuring local and regional artist held at the Olathe Station Shopping Center. This is a family friendly event that will include live music, food trucks, a children’s activity tent, and free wine tasting each day at 2pm in the gallery.
And don’t forget the last clues to find Old Bill’s Treasure will be at the fair.

Students will learn how to manipulate copper foil to create a raised design. Students will then use their foil design to cover a wooden plaque or box.
* Weekly Bead Weaving Class with Rachel Rose *
Monday Nights Starting April 8
COST : $25. per session

Space limited to 14 artists
Create beautiful beaded artwork and jewelry. You set the pace at which you learn no penalty for going slow or fast. We should meet new friends and have a lot of fun learning some very interesting techniques learning and exploring how to paint with beads. We will start with amulet bags, the technique is right angle weave. First night will be free just to get introduced and we will talk about supplies. If you want to get started the first night here is a supply list (if you want to hit the ground beading). Please bring size 8,11 or 15 seed beads in any color or contrasting colors 10 grams or a hank at least of each color,4-6 mm crystals at pack of 50- 100 crystals, nylon or beading thread size b,c or d, size 13 beading needle or big eyed needle, small scissors, smooth shallow bowl or plate. Graph paper will be supplied because there is special beading graph paper according to the technique or type bead we’ll be using. Also bring reference material like a cross stitch pattern if you like.

Students will make eight clay projects that have a farm theme. Students will learn a variety of methods for creating with clay as well as glazing. Each class is offered twice a day with two different time slots to choose from.

Cost: $80. for 4 classes

Class size limited
Students will learn how to draw and shade still life, animals and portraits. Students will explore the mediums of charcoal, pencil, oil pastel, ink and chalk. Classes do not have to be consecutive.

These instructional workshops are educational as well as being fun and creative. Artists will learn how to use specific mixed media techniques in each workshop. The waterfall with a glittering moon above is a peaceful night scene in blues. Artists will learning how to make a Monochromatic landscape. Glitter helps the water sparkle in the moonlight. Join us and create your troubles away! The instructors will help you create your own unique painting. Everything you could ever want to make your painting so fabulous.
Bring your own refreshments. We will have water & paper goods available. You may want to arrive a little early to get your drink and apron on!
