Assignment for March Meeting

Old Stone Building (Mill?) on Cedar Creek near Lake OlatheWe have an art challenge for March’s meeting. The subject is the old stone building by the waterfall at Lake Olathe. Go draw, paint, photograph, sculpt, whatever it and bring the results in for show-and-tell. And have fun!

To get there, take W. Dennis Ave. west from K-7. The building is on the south side of Dennis, just on the shoulder of the road where S. Wardcliff Drive forms a T just before the bridge. It’s right on the side of Cedar Creek where it feeds under the bridge and into the lake. There’s a waterfall just upstream. (See Map Below)

The building appears to be on private property and has No Trespassing signs posted, but no one came out to chase me off when I took pictures yesterday.

The roads are marked with no Parking signs everywhere that would be convenient to park, so you’ll have to walk a bit from your car. Not too far, though. The best places to park would be either the little parking lot a short way up Wardcliff or on the side of road on S. Palmer Drive, which is a neighborhood street just past the bridge on the left. Don’t worry about walking along Dennis, the road’s plenty wide and there’s a sidewalk part of the way.
